What?: Four days in the Cotswolds – doing some gentle walking, eating, pub visiting, and checking out the distinctive architecture in mostly beautiful Spring weather.
Where and When?: May 2019 – based in Stow-on-the-Wold and staying at The Stag at Stow. Rented a car and drove around to checkout Cirencester, Cheltenham, Upper and Lower Slaughter, Oddington, Maugersbury, Daylesford and of course Oxford, en route.
Highlights: The Cotswolds are beautiful – the scenery and architecture are so distinctive, and the the countryside remains a delight despite being so close to London. It really is a different world. The short walk between Upper and Lower Slaughter is worth doing, and a visit to Daylesford Organic Farm is a must (ask for a map in the farm shop so you can walk around the farm).
Lowlights: For every absolutely gorgeous corner in every gorgeous town, there is an over-touristed under-maintained corner too. For my money The Stag fell into that category – it has a lot of potential but is just a bit tired and needs freshening up. Helpful staff however and a good breakfast, which makes up for a LOT!
